ASUS has announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 at Computex 2026 — an upgrade to the Xbox Ally X handheld with a huge 7.4-inch display and a new OLED panel, taking inspiration from its rival, the Lenovo Legion Go 2. But there’s a catch: this new handheld will only be available in a bundle with a pair of $849 ROG XReal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses.
I own 3 PC gaming handhelds, and this is the one I barely use
Until Linux gets serious about multiplayer gaming, my Steam Deck will collect dust while I play on my Windows gaming handhelds instead.
Is it worth the upgrade?
Externally, the ROG XBOX Ally X20 looks amazing. It has a translucent black chassis, reminiscent of the transparent handheld consoles of the early 2000s. Inside, you can see its custom gold interior, gold-accented fans, and immersive joystick lighting, all crowned by an exclusive 20th Anniversary badge on the rear.
Brand new for the ROG XBOX Ally X20, this Nebula HDR Display features an OLED panel with breathtaking visual depth and a peak brightness of 1400 nits, while the ultra-fast 120Hz refresh rate and FreeSync Premium Pro support ensure every movement is effortlessly smooth.
However, internally, it seems little has changed. It still has an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme Processor, 24GB of RAM, and 1TB of NVMe storage, with support for AI upscaling in its Auto Super Resolution tech.
But crucially, it also fixes the main issue I had with my Xbox ROG Ally – stick drift. The upgraded TMR sensors are designed to resist stick drift and minimize power consumption. You can also transform the D-pad from a standard 4-way input into a smooth 8-way configuration for precise diagonal inputs.
The all-important price tag
There is no official word yet from ASUS on the actual price or whether the ROG Xbox Ally X20 will ever be sold separately from the XReal AR Glasses bundle. Early reports suggest the only option will be this bundle, and if that holds, the final price could range from $2,000 to $2,500.
To be clear, these numbers are just speculation based on the combined retail price of similar AR glasses and high-end handhelds. Unless the bundle can come close to that, it risks falling into the same niche as the $1,500 MSI Claw EX Al+. We’ll update this article as soon as we have the confirmed price for this bundle.
A few longtime ROG fans love the bold anniversary design, but many question why this bundle has been announced without a price tag, making it seem all the more likely that it will likely price most gamers out.
