I was excited when Spotify launched its AI playlist generator. However, after trying it for several weeks, it left me yearning for more. That prompted me to go on a search to find the best alternatives. Luckily, I stumbled across three AI playlist generators that outshine Spotify’s.
I was excited when Spotify launched its AI playlist generator, but having tried it on multiple occasions, it doesn’t quite hit the spot. That’s why I went on the hunt to find other AI playlist generators—and found three that are better than Spotify.
PlaylistAI is my go-to playlist generator when I want to create a perfect mix of music that suits an idea I have in mind, powered by artificial intelligence (AI). For instance, I can enter a prompt like “the best Avicii songs” or “perfect focus songs for studying in the morning,” and PlaylistAI will instantly generate a curated playlist that fits the query.
It allows you to remove songs you don’t like, so the final playlist is perfect. The app takes it a step further, automatically creating a title for the generated playlist. While these titles are helpful sometimes, they may not always be ideal for future discovery or context.
Besides standard prompts, PlaylistAI offers several creative ways to generate playlists. You can also create a playlist by simply uploading a music festival poster, and it’ll do the rest by putting together a personalized playlist featuring the performing artists.
Another way to create playlists is through smart suggestions. By default, PlaylistAI offers smart music suggestions based on the time of day. It also has a Rewind feature that lets you revisit your past favorites by including them in a playlist. To create your Rewind playlist, the app lets you pick a time range and remove artists that shouldn’t be included.
You can use PlaylistAI on the web, in ChatGPT, or download its iOS-exclusive mobile app. The mobile app has more functionality than the web version, but both offer limited access for free. Regardless, it’s a perfect alternative if you don’t want to use Spotify’s AI playlist generator.

Playlistable is another excellent AI playlist generator that is better than Spotify. Right out of the gate, it gives you a couple of options to get started: buttons with customized prompts that you can select to create a playlist. It also has a mood section that you can sift through to find the perfect option for creating a playlist.
Mood options include genre details so you know what to expect. However, despite these easily accessible buttons with pre-filled information, Playlistable also has a text field that you can use to craft a custom prompt for creating a playlist.
Generating playlists based on your prompts is what makes Playlistable powerful. You can tag artists using the at symbol (@) or include specific songs using a hashtag symbol (#) in your prompt. Its home page also contains your top artists and most played tracks, so you can tap to add to your prompt.
Once your playlist is ready, you can open it on Spotify, making the experience seamless. The only limitation is that you can only create two playlists for free before Playlistable prompts you to upgrade to a paid plan. Unlike PlaylistAI, Playlistable has no mobile app, which might be a deal-breaker for some.
Soundiiz is mainly known for its playlist transfer feature, allowing you to transfer playlists from one music streaming service to another. You can transfer your Spotify playlists to YouTube Music, for example, but it supports a wide array of streaming services. Alongside playlist transfers, it also includes an AI playlist generator.
Soundiiz offers two modes for creating AI playlists: tags and query mode. Tags mode allows you to create playlists by selecting and combining various tags across genres, moods, and decades. Query mode is perfect for creating a playlist based on a custom description. But unlike previous AI playlist generators, Soundiiz adds customization features that you can take advantage of to personalize the result.
For instance, you can tell Soundiiz the maximum number of songs that should be included in the playlist. Another standout feature is playlist synchronization, which allows Soundiiz to automatically update a generated playlist daily.

Why I Stopped Trying to Find New Music and Gave In to AI DJs
Finding new music is hard; AI DJs cut out the work.
All Playlists created by Soundiiz are private by default, which is great—PlaylistAI and Playlistable publicize all playlists. However, you can make your created playlists public before exporting to Spotify. Soundiiz can also generate albums and artists that fit specific tags or a custom query.
Another winning feature is its compatibility with other major streaming services, including Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, Deezer, and Qobuz. However, some features are paid, like the playlist synchronization feature and album importation.
If you’re bored with Spotify’s AI playlist generator, don’t despair. PlaylistAI, Playlistable, and Soundiiz are great alternatives, allowing you to generate playlists based on custom prompts, just like on Spotify. They’re easy to use and let you add generated playlists to Spotify with ease, making them just as convenient as using Spotify’s built-in AI playlist generator.
