Whether you’re a nostalgic soul or not, the iconic Snake game that came preinstalled on old Nokia phones is hard to forget. Today, it lives on in countless variations, including one from Spotify.
How to “Eat” Your Spotify Playlists
If by some chance you’ve never played Snake (which is hard to believe), the game is incredibly straightforward. It starts with a snake that moves up, down, left, and right. Your job is to help it eat, which makes it grow longer, by swiping in the right direction to reach its “food.”
The game ends when the snake runs into itself. Depending on the version, hitting a wall can end the game, or the snake might instead wrap around the screen.

Nothing phone owners can now relive the heady days when playing Snake on a Nokia was as good as it got when it came to gaming on a phone.
Spotify has developed a Snake game, unsurprisingly with a musical twist. Instead of guiding the snake to food, you’re guiding it toward songs from your playlist! The game, called Eat this playlist, is built right into the app. Strangely enough, the game is currently available only on iPhone and iPad.
If you have an iOS or iPadOS device and would like to “eat” a playlist, open the Spotify app and choose any playlists. You can use one of your own, those created by other users, or Spotify’s auto-generated playlists like Discover Weekly or On Repeat. You can find Spotify-generated playlists quickly by switching to the Search tab at the bottom, then tapping Made For You under the Browse all header.
Once you’ve picked a playlist, tap the horizontal three dots, scroll all the way down, and select Eat your playlist from the menu.
A New Way to “Consume” Your Spotify Playlists
You’ll be taken straight to Spotify’s Snake game. The game begins with a triangle-shaped “snake,” and you’ll see a track from your playlist represented by a small square with its album cover. You can help the snake reach it by swiping up, down, left, or right—once it eats the track, it’ll become part of the tail, making the snake grow longer.
The game ends when your musical snake collides with itself or hits a wall.

The background changes depending on the album cover, and the track currently acting as the snake’s “food” plays in the background, making it a fun way to preview the contents of your playlist. If you’re playing with a playlist other than your own and hear a song you like, tap the plus (+) icon in the top-left corner to add it to your Liked Songs. If you tap Change when the Added to Liked Songs message appears, you can save it to another playlist.
If your playlist is relatively short, and you manage to “eat” all the tracks, it simply loops back to the start. Want another round? Just tap Play Again, or follow the same steps to try a different playlist. Spotify even tracks your high score, so once you get the hang of it, you can try to beat your own record!
I’m surprised I had no idea this game existed inside Spotify for so long. That aside, it’s not just nostalgic; it’s oddly addictive. I played it for an hour straight on the bus!
