Plex has announced the launch of user and critic reviews, which will let you flex your creative muscles and post your thoughts on movies, shows, seasons, and episodes.
User Reviews Arrive on Plex
Plex announced the launch of the reviews feature on the Plex forums, detailing some of the limitations of the feature and what users will need in order to qualify to post reviews.
Users will be able to post reviews from both the website and mobile apps. But in order to write reviews, you will need a verified email address. When you post a review, it will appear on your profile, your friends’ activity feeds, and title detail pages.
Initially, Ratings & Reviews from users will only be visible to Friends or Friends of Friends. You also have the option to keep them private so that only you can see them. In the future, the feature will expand to allow users to share reviews with anyone on Plex.
To post a review, you can visit a title page on Plex and select the Rate & Review option. Plex notes that if you want to review content from your Personal Media library, you will need to enable the Sync Watch State & Ratings feature — so you may not see the option for media that is included in your shared Plex library unless you enable that setting.
This will open a popup where you can set a rating out of five stars and write some thoughts about the content in a text box for the review. The popup also includes the option to select who can see your review, as well as the option to mark a review as containing spoilers.
If you don’t want to wait for public reviews to launch before sharing your thoughts with the wider Plex user base, you can try to get early access to the feature by filling in the Plex Reviews Beta Application Form. Accounts that are selected will be able to post the first community reviews on the platform.
The platform also notes that you should take a look at its community guidelines before posting any reviews.
In terms of seeing reviews on Plex, you can choose whether you want to see no reviews, reviews from only critics, reviews from only Plex users, or reviews from both Plex users and critics. This setting can be found on Plex by going to Settings > Account > Ratings and Reviews From > Edit.
But since reviews aren’t public yet, you may not see any reviews if you don’t have any friends on the platform. However, the feature is another step towards Plex being the perfect all-in-one streaming platform.
Reviews will hopefully give more insight into the quality of Plex content for those using the service, as well as allowing film and TV lovers to share their thoughts on their favorite media.
