Nintendo is bringing the Alarmo, its gimmicky and rather expensive alarm clock, to the masses. As, not only will it be available to buy from participating retailers, you’ll no longer need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to buy one.
Nintendo Wants More People to Buy Alarmos
First announced in October 2024, Alarmo is an alarm clock themed around Nintendo’s biggest and best franchises. So, for $99, you can wake up to the sounds of Mario, Zelda, and a host of other Nintendo games and characters.
Until now, Alarmo has only been available to buy direct from Nintendo, and required an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to purchase. However, Nintendo has now announced that, in March 2025, Alarmo will be available at participating retailers for anyone to buy.
Alarmo will be available to buy from stores in the US, the EU, and the UK, while stocks last. However, we recommend that you read our review of Alarmo before buying one, as, while fun for any Nintendo fan, it’s far from perfect. It’s also pricey for what is, essentially, just a digital alarm clock.
All Anyone Cares About Is the Switch 2!
As nice as the news that Alarmo is coming to stores is, it isn’t the announcement that Nintendo fans are waiting with bated breath for. Because the only hardware announcement people really care about at the moment is the long-awaited Switch 2.
In 2024, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the company was working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch, and that it would be announced during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Which gives Nintendo until March 31, 2025, to announce it.
In the meantime, there have been several alleged leaks showing the design of the console and its controllers. None of which have been confirmed as anything more than speculative nonsense by sites and social media influencers trying to get attention.
For its part, Nintendo appears to be teasing its fans with a series of announcements that turn out not to be the Switch 2. And this run of something-other-than-the-Switch-2 press releases began with the unveiling of Alarmo all the way back in October 2024.
