IFA, which stands for Internationale Funkausstellung, is one of the largest consumer electronics trade fairs and is held every year in Berlin. This year, iFLYTEK is showcasing the AINOTE 2, billed as the world’s thinnest E-Ink tablet. The device stands out not just for its slim design, measuring only 4.5 mm thick, but also for its suite of AI-powered tools aimed at streamlining how people capture, organize, and act on information from meetings and conversations, which might solve the biggest issue I have with my Kindle Scribe.

At just 4.2 mm and 295 g, it slips easily into a daily commute bag, with its ultra-thin design recognized by Guinness World Records and an iF Design Award. There is expected to be a surge in innovation in the e-reader market at IFA in 2026, with firms such as Onyx, Kobo, and reMarkable planning to display next-generation E-Ink devices with advanced note-taking capabilities, colour screens, and greater integration with digital ecosystems.
The AINOTE 2 aims to make taking notes easier for ordinary users. It has a writing surface that resembles paper so you can take handwritten notes, and its built-in AI can transcribe spoken conversations in multiple languages, identify who is speaking, and even perform real-time translation. Once meetings have taken place, the device automatically produces structured summaries and converts handwritten notes into digital text, making it easier to locate and share the main points.
The AINOTE 2 could actually solve one of the biggest issues I have with my Kindle Scribe. I’ve found my Scribe, personally, to be quite clunky to use, typically having to email myself PDFs or work with a limited number of file formats.
The organisation and search facilities are generally simple, collaboration is very limited, and smart functions such as audio transcription are absent. In contrast, the AINOTE 2 provides instant conversion of handwriting into digital text, has strong search capabilities, enables real-time collaboration, and includes voice recording with AI-powered transcription and summaries. It also integrates Google Play and various productivity applications to make handwritten notes more useful and accessible without requiring any additional steps or workarounds.
One of the tablet’s practical advantages is its integration with popular productivity tools: users can search notes using natural language, sync deadlines to Google Calendar, and access workplace apps via Android 14 and Google Play. For those who travel or commute, the lightweight, glare-free design is intended to reduce eye strain and fit easily into daily life.
Privacy is also important, with key functions such as handwriting capture, recording, and OCR being designed to operate offline. When cloud features are used, data from Europe is processed on AWS servers in Frankfurt to GDPR standard and is subject to strict controls regarding audio retention.
