Streaming Services Worth Staying Subscribed To
How often do you fire up your favorite streaming service only to realize it doesn’t have the show or movie you want to watch? Despite streaming services dominating how we consume content, licensing agreements mean you often have to subscribe to multiple options to watch what you want.
I’ve totally leaned into this: I have ten different streaming platform subscriptions and couldn’t be happier with my decision.
Streaming Services Worth Staying Subscribed To
Subscribing to 10 different streaming platforms is a lot- and certainly, more than the average person typically subscribes to. I have found that I enjoy each and every one of the platforms below for their own reasons, and I wouldn’t want to drop even a single one.
Streaming Platform |
Benefits |
Price per Month for Basic Subscription |
---|---|---|
Netflix |
Allows for downloads for offline viewing, making it the go-to streaming platform for downloading titles to watch while traveling without access to the internet. |
$6.99 |
Hulu |
Access to Hulu originals and can be purchased with ESPN+ and Disney+ in a bundle. |
$7.99 |
ESPN+ |
Best hub for live sporting events without having to pay for traditional cable. |
$10.99 |
Disney+ |
The most family-friendly option on the market, it features many classic Disney films as well as new Disney and National Geographic releases. |
$7.99 |
Apple TV+ |
The only way to access Apple Originals, such as Ted Lasso and Dickinson. |
$9.99 |
Amazon Prime |
Comes with an Amazon Prime subscription and offers access to many old classic TV shows and films that are difficult to find elsewhere. |
Included with Amazon Prime Membership or $8.99 |
Peacock |
Peacock offers access to on-demand titles and hosts 24/7 on-air channels that function similarly to traditional cable. |
$7.99 |
Paramount+ |
Hosts older classic Paramount titles. It is also one of the first places new films will appear on streaming platforms after they run in theaters. |
$7.99 |
Starz |
The platform focuses on representation within original content and does not have ads. |
$9.99 |
Max |
Only way to access fan favorites like Game of Thrones and allows for downloading titles for offline viewing. |
$9.99 |
I subscribe to the most basic version of most streaming platforms above to make things less expensive. While this often means I will watch commercials or be restricted in the number of devices I can use or download for offline viewing, I prefer access to a greater variety of titles through multiple subscriptions versus paying more to subscribe to premium subscription tiers.
If you want to subscribe to multiple streaming services to curate the best access to your favorite films and TV shows, consider researching bundles. Many streaming platform subscriptions may be offered at a discount when bundled with other platforms. For example, if you enjoy Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+, a great choice is to purchase the Disney Bundle Trio Basic, which allows access to all three platforms for $14.99 per month.
Choosing the right streaming service for you can be daunting as there are many to choose from, but it often boils down to the genre of content you enjoy, price, and availability at your location.
A great way to try out multiple streaming services simultaneously is to sign up for free trials. These free trials allow you to experience what the platform offers, all at no cost. Often, the seven days offered are enough to determine whether the streaming platform would be a good fit for you. Also, consider checking with other subscriptions you may already have. For instance, at the time of writing, a subscription to Walmart+ comes with access to Paramount + at no additional cost.
Services I Have Canceled
Through the years of subscribing to various streaming platforms, some have garnered my loyalty and some have just fallen a bit short. As streaming platforms become even more impressive and have begun adding more original titles to the line-up, a few have become obsolete. Over the past few years, I have canceled the following:
- Philo
- Youtube Premium
- Sling TV
- Discovery+
Both Philo and Sling TV didn’t offer enough content I was interested in to justify the price. YouTube Premium didn’t have the same user experience I was used to with other more streamlined platforms. Lastly, with the other subscriptions I was already paying for, I could gain access to most titles hosted by Discover+, thereby making it redundant.
Overall, which streaming platforms you should subscribe to depends on what platform has your favorite titles or creates your most liked new shows or movies. Try out subscribing to a few to keep you entertained year-round.
