At CES 2026, I saw hundreds of people zipping around on rideable smart suitcases like it was the world’s slowest electric scooter rally. Yes, you read that right – rideable suitcases. Naturally, I had to give one a go. And after trying it, I see why they’re so popular.

The suitcase in question is from a company called Gyroor, and it is indeed a real product you’ll be able to buy. It’s carry-on sized, complete with all the usual pockets and compartments. But unlike other suitcases, you can fold out a footrest, pop up the handle, and suddenly you’re riding your luggage instead of dragging it behind you.
First off, it doesn’t look half bad. For something that transforms into a ride-on, the design is surprisingly sleek. All the scooter bits tuck away neatly when not in use, so you’re not walking around with an obvious “gadget bag.” It’s also been cleverly designed for air travel, with a removable battery that lets you comply with airlines that tighter restrictions on lithium batteries.
On the show floor, the Gyroor handled surprisingly well. It’s not going to win any speed records – maxing out around 10 km/h – but it’s quick enough to get you from one side of the airport to the other, where your connection always ends up boarding. There’s a slower Child Mode, in case any parents are brave enough to get this for the little-uns.
As someone with adult-sized limbs, I was impressed by how easy it is to sit on. There’s enough legroom to not feel like you’re falling off, and balancing on it was easier than expected. The ride was smooth thanks to chunky front wheels and explosion-proof tyres, and the footrest doesn’t spin with the wheel.
Of course, this thing isn’t just a scooter of sorts. It’s a proper suitcase, with 20 litres of space, a tablet slot, and even antibacterial lining to keep things fresh. There’s a TSA lock and USB charging port, like other smart suitcases. If you’re tired of walking around airports, the Gyroor Rideable Suitcase will be available later this year for $499.
