Summary
- I use ChatGPT to plan big projects, refine processes, and organize life efficiently.
- I utilize Perplexity for in-depth research, clear reasoning, and finding answers to simple queries.
- Choosing both ChatGPT and Perplexity maximizes strengths like conceptualization and research capabilities.
Although many people choose ChatGPT Plus or Perplexity Pro as their preferred option, I actually think it’s worth using both. The two tools have their own unique strengths, making them the perfect companion for one another.
How I Use ChatGPT Plus
In my opinion, ChatGPT has a more diverse range of offerings than Perplexity Pro. The app does a number of things well, whereas Perplexity excels in a few niche areas. Here are some of the top ways that I use ChatGPT Plus.
1. Planning My Big Projects
While I’m very goal-oriented, I sometimes struggle to lay out my ideas in an organized manner. ChatGPT has been a huge help in allowing me to do this. I mainly use the tool for planning timescales and creating projections. Since I’m self-employed, this has been very helpful in enabling me to set clear goals and stay motivated over the long run.
ChatGPT is also ideal when I want to refine my processes. I have conversations with the AI throughout my planning and implementation phases, giving it more information to work with. Because of this, it’s easier to make more refined suggestions when circumstances change.
2. Organizing My Life
ChatGPT is also great for organizing other areas of my life, and in my opinion, Custom GPTs are ChatGPT’s most underrated feature. I can use the tool to develop daily routines and plans that help me stay on top of my work, and when I receive the information I need, I can then make tweaks based on my personal preferences.
I also like using ChatGPT to create new programs. Most of the time, these are pretty accurate without needing any additional information from my end. However, you need to use specific prompting; this is one of many AI prompting tips and tricks that actually work.
3. Conceptualization
I have many random thoughts throughout the day, and I like using ChatGPT to make sense of abstract ideas. For example, I’ve tried using the tool to create random stories before. You can use Custom GPTs for this, but I have also had good results when just using the tool as is.
If I have a big dream that I want to achieve, ChatGPT can help me make more sense of it. It’s also useful if you have specific goals that you want to achieve, such as New Year’s resolutions, since you can tell it to create an overall picture of what you want to happen.
How I Use Perplexity
While ChatGPT is more of a jack-of-all-trades, Perplexity is very good at specific niche topics. Here are the main ways that I use Perplexity alongside ChatGPT Plus.
1. In-Depth Research
Research capabilities are the primary reason why I think that a Perplexity Pro subscription is worth the money. I love how good Perplexity is at finding articles based on comprehensive queries and that it gives clear reasoning alongside total transparency throughout the process.
Perplexity quickly identifies multiple sources, and I can then conduct deeper research using its follow-up questions. It’s also nice to get a quick overview with some initial context.
If needed, I can cross-reference with Google to ensure I cover all bases. Doing so is one of the best ways that I get the most out of my Perplexity Pro subscription.
Finding Answers to Simple Queries
I used to go to Google for answers to simple queries, such as finding ways to unblock the kitchen sink. However, I have grown increasingly frustrated because search results of this kind often include videos. Personally, I’d much rather read text for simple problems that I want to solve quickly.
While ChatGPT also offers solutions to simple problems, I prefer how Perplexity lays out this information. I also think it’s better to draw from multiple sources.
Both
ChatGPT and Perplexity have strengths and weaknesses. While many choose one or the other, I think the best approach is to use both. ChatGPT is better for conceptualization and brainstorming, whereas Perplexity is better for research. My subscriptions pay for themselves each month.
