I Finally Listened to Spotify’s AI-Generated Podcast, and It’s Slightly Underwhelming

If you haven’t yet listened to Spotify’s AI-generated podcast all about your Wrapped for 2024, you really should. While it may not quite blow you away as intended, it’s still worth seeing what all the fuss is about. After all, artificial intelligence isn’t going away anytime soon, so we may as well see exactly what it’s capable of, right?!

How to Listen to Spotify’s AI-Generated Podcast for Wrapped

Spotify Wrapped dropped on December 4, 2024, and one of the new elements this year was an AI-generated podcast. Spotify leaned heavily into AI for its 2024 Wrapped, with its AI DJ having its own section, and other AI elements also included. However, the most surprising inclusion was an AI-generated podcast.

This podcast was generated by Google’s NotebookLM, an AI-powered note-taking app that made headlines in 2024. While the whole app is worth exploring, NotebookLM came to most people’s attention due to its ability to generate podcasts about any subject, including your Spotify Wrapped results.

To listen to your Spotify Wrapped AI Podcast, look for the Wrapped tab at the top of the Spotify mobile app. Once you have opened that, you should see Your Wrapped AI Podcast. Tap that, and you’ll have the opportunity to listen to two AI hosts discuss your year in music.

If the Wrapped tab has disappeared from the top of Spotify, you can either search for “Your Spotify Wrapped AI podcast” or go directly to spotify.com/wrappedaipodcast.

I Listened to My AI Podcast and Was Slightly Underwhelmed

I spend time absorbing my Wrapped every year, which is how I put together our guide to getting the most out of Spotify Wrapped 2024. However, it took me longer than expected to properly sit down and listen to my AI podcast. Mine is just over three minutes long, but yours may be shorter or longer depending on how much there is to discuss.

The podcast features two AI hosts discussing your Spotify Wrapped as if they have the stats in front of them. Mine begins with the hosts mentioning my total listening time, and they seem impressed by how long I racked up listening to Spotify. They then discuss my most-listened to song (“Creep” by Radiohead), my top artist (The Beatles), and my musical journey through the year.

Much of the podcast is a little meh, as it literally just repeats the information already visible to you via your Wrapped roundup. In that regard, it’s like having an artificial intelligence chatbot repeat information back to you in a robotic way. And while this should come as no surprise, given that that’s how AI works, I was expecting a little more.

The most interesting parts of the podcast are when the hosts dive a little deeper. Such as when, upon hearing that The Beatles were my top artist of 2024, they mention how The Beatles have inspired so many artists, and even reference Mark Ronson as being a fan. I also appreciated the positivity that was present throughout, as the AI hosts praised my “amazing” music tastes and willingness to seek out new sounds.

Spotify’s Wrapped AI Podcast Is a Work in Progress

I have to say, I was a little underwhelmed by Spotify’s Wrapped AI podcast for 2024. Especially when I have explored NotebookLM beyond this partnership and have been blown away by some of the AI podcasts it produces.

Ultimately, these AI podcasts are merely a work in progress. While impressive, NotebookLM is still a work in progress, so the AI podcasts it produces are only likely to get better. This makes me hope that Spotify retains its partnership with Google and includes another AI podcast in Spotify Wrapped 2025.
