It’s no exaggeration to say that ChatGPT is everywhere. With a quick phone call to 1-800-CHATGPT, you can now talk with the AI assistant.
Message ChatGPT Through WhatsApp
You can only call in the United States, and conversations are limited to 15 minutes per month tied to a specific phone number. Anyone with WhatsApp globally can message 1-800-242-8478 to access the AI assistant.
During a livestream, OpenAI says the phone number was created to make ChatGPT accessible if you’re without a smartphone or computer. The audio version is running a full version of the GPT-4o model.
I called the number, and everything worked just as you’d imagine. The conversation is similar to using the voice mode in the OpenAI app.
Just ask your question and hear the response. You can even interrupt the answer if you want to ask another question or ask to end the call. It was just a bit strange, as you might imagine, talking to an AI at a telephone number. I can’t imagine that I would actually use the service.
You obviously can’t log in to ChatGPT using the phone number, so your conversations won’t be available to access later.
The WhatsApp integration is probably more useful as you can just use the popular messaging app to ask a quick question.
What’s Next for ChatGPT?
The unique feature was unveiled on the 10th day of OpenAI’s 12 Days of “ship-mas.” During the event, a number of new features and improvements have been added to one of the leading AI chatbot services.
Earlier this week, ChatGPT Search was rolled out to all users, even without a subscription. You just need an account. ChatGPT Search works similar to a search engine but in a more conversational tone without needing to click through scores of web pages.
If you have money to burn, you can also try out the new $200 per month ChatGPT Pro subscription that offers pretty much everything the company has to offer.
Instead of chatting and image generation, OpenAI also unveiled the Sora video generator. With that, you can create a video with just a text prompt.
