Social media platforms are awash with videos these days, with both short (TikTok-style) and long (YouTube-style) videos flooding your feeds. X, formerly Twitter, is no exception. And you can now watch the videos posted on X on your smart television thanks to a dedicated X TV app.
The X TV App Is Now Available In Beta
The beta version of the X TV app is now available to download from various app stores, including Google Play, the Amazon Appstore, and LG’s Content Store. The app can be installed on smart TVs, and then used to watch videos posted on X on the big screen. To find it, just search for “X TV” on your smart TV’s app store.
The app has been floating around for a while on some app stores, but with X owner Elon Musk now tweeting about it, it’s clearly ready for public consumption. As somewhat of a soft launch, Musk retweeted another post, adding that the “Beta version of X TV is out”.
Watch Videos Posted to X On Your TV
The X TV app does what you likely what you would expect it to do… let you watch videos posted on X on a dedicated smart TV app. You do, however, need to have an X account in order to watch anything. However, beyond that, everything is free, with nothing yet hidden behind the X Premium paywall.
The description of the X TV app reveals how Musk and his cohorts view X and why they think a dedicated TV app is a good idea:
“The X app is the trusted global digital town square for everyone, on your TV! Discover a new way to experience the world of X, as we bring you unique and engaging content right to your living room.”
As well as videos posted to X, there’s a promise that exclusive content and live streams will be coming to the X TV app. But even in its beta state, X TV offers a Replay TV feature, where you can store up to 72 hours of content, and a Startover TV feature, which allows you to start live shows from the beginning. You can also record up to 100 hours of content using the Free Cloud DVR function.
Elon Musk Wants X to Be Everything
When Elon Musk acquired Twitter, now officially known as X, it was a mere messaging app. However, Musk has long held ambitions to create what he refers to as an “everything app”.
While Musk’s everything app was always intended to be called X, other features beyond the social media/micro-blogging element have so far been absent. However, the X TV app could be the first in a line of pivots for the app formerly known as Twitter.
