After teasing a free weekend of Apple TV+ for a few days, the company has finally announced the details. And the headline news is that Apple TV+ will be completely free to watch on January 4 and January 5, 2025. Giving you a whole weekend to watch as many TV shows, movies, and/or documentaries as you want.
Apple Is Giving Apple TV+ Away for Free This Weekend
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Apple has announced that Apple TV+ will be completely free to watch for one weekend only. On the first weekend of the year (January 4-5), anyone will be able to stream any of the many shows, movies, and documentaries available on Apple’s streaming service.
All you need to do is have the Apple TV+ app installed on one of your devices, and you can open it and watch as much content as you want across the two days. The Apple TV+ app is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, smart TVs, and gaming consoles.
To watch Apple TV+ for free, just open the Apple TV+ app on your chosen device, and everything on it should be free to stream on January 4 and 5. It doesn’t matter whether you have subscribed to Apple TV+ before and let your subscription lapse, or have never subscribed to it previously, you’ll be able to access the content for one weekend only.
You Can Binge-Watch an Entire Show If You’re Quick
This is the first time that Apple has offered Apple TV+ for free to anyone and everyone with an interest in its programming. Apple already offers the first episode of each of its exclusive series for free, but you then have to subscribe to carry on watching. Whereas this free weekend gives you much more flexibility to explore full seasons.
Essentially, if you prepare in advance by installing the app on one of your devices, and are quick enough at plowing through shows at a rate of knots, you could binge-watch an entire show over the course of this one weekend. And that includes Severance, Slow Horses, Black Bird, Ted Lasso, and countless other highly-rated shows that are exclusive to Apple TV+.
Obviously, while this is a generous offer on behalf of Apple, the company isn’t really doing it out of the kindness of its heart. Instead, the free weekend of Apple TV+ is designed to get you hooked on one or more of the shows, making it more likely that you’ll pay for an Apple TV+ subscription when the next season drops.
