With streaming video, it could be months, or even years between seasons of your favorite TV show. A great new Amazon Prime Video feature is using generative AI to help catch you up with what happened last season, or even the last scene.
Don’t Waste Time With X-Ray Recaps
The new X-Ray Recaps feature allows you to quickly get up to speed without rewinding or coming across spoilers online.
Generative AI will provide a brief, easy-to-read summary of a full season, single episode, or even a small piece of an episode. They can be viewed at any time while watching.
To see a recap, you can launch one from the Prime Video detail page or during playback on the X-Ray experience. After selecting the feature, you can choose from various types of recaps.
Using X-Ray, you can also take a closer look at the show and view trivia, information about the cast, soundtrack, production details, and more.
Amazon AI technology will analyze video segments and dialogue to provide descriptions of key events, places, times, and conversations. Specific guardrails will also make sure that the text is spoiler-free and concise.
X-Ray Recaps is now in beta and available to Fire TV customers starting in the U.S. today with support for additional devices arriving by the end of the year. The feature at launch will be available on all Amazon MGM Studios Original series including Daisy Jones and the Six, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Wheel of Time, and The Boys.
Using AI to Help Make Entertainment Better
The X-Ray Recaps feature isn’t the first AI-powered feature added to Prime Video. Back in 2023, Amazon added Dialogue Boost.
That allows you to select the volume of the dialogue while watching a movie or TV show. The feature analyzes the original audio and then identifies points where the dialogue might be hard to hear, like over special effects or loud background music. Then it will isolate and enhance dialogue to make it clearer.
It seems like AI technology is being added to every app and service imaginable, even when it doesn’t make any sense. But it is great to see Amazon using AI for a great purpose and make its streaming service even better.
