Finally! After 17 years of Amazon’s iconic Kindle e-reader, the company has just announced the first version with a color screen—the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition.
In Living Color
Good things come to those who wait, especially if you’re a reader. The new Kindle features a 7-inch Colorsoft display with no harsh glare of intense light like a traditional backlit screen. The Kindle’s display also features an auto-adjusting front light that will adjust from a white light to warm amber.
To make the most of the color display, you can highlight in yellow, orange, blue, or pink, and then search for highlights by color. You can also pinch to zoom.
Like many other higher-end Kindle models, the color version is also waterproof with a flush-front design. The built-in battery can go for up to eight weeks between charging. Along with charging from the USB-C port, there is an optional wireless charging dock.
You can pre-order the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition for $279.99. It will officially arrive later this month on October 30.
The color version wasn’t the only new addition to the Kindle lineup. Amazon also unveiled a second-generation Kindle Scribe.
A big change is the redesigned flush-front display with uniform white borders that makes the experience more like writing on a piece of paper. Also included is an upgraded Premium Pen with a soft-tipped eraser.
Using the Scribe’s Active Canvas feature, you can write notes directly on the book’s page. The notes become part of the page and the text flows around it. In the future, you will also be able to write notes in the side panel and hide them when done.
And yes, there is also a new AI feature for the Scribe. The notebook will allow you to quickly summarize pages and pages of notes into concise bullets with a script font that can easily be shared.
The Kindle Scribe starts at $399.99 for a 16GB model and can be pre-ordered now. It will officially arrive on December 4.
Will Color Help Supercharge the Kindle?
I’ve always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with my Kindle. I enjoy reading, and the Kindle is by far the best way to enjoy longer novels. The Kindle Unlimited subscription is also worth every penny as it gives me access to a myraid of books and more.
But most days, I just stick to reading on my iPhone or iPad. I’m excited to give the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition a try and see if it can bring a new dimension to the reading experience.
