Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, a luxury four‑door electric grand tourer that’s the first production car built under the brand’s “exuberant modernist” design philosophy.
It’s the most powerful, most aerodynamic and most technically advanced road car Jaguar has made, and, to say you should be excited is an understatement.
I’ve driven a fair few Jaguars over the years, from the F-Type SVR to the ahead-of-its-time I-Pace, and, somewhat hilariously, even appeared in an advert for the Jaguar XE. I’ll admit it: I’ve always had a soft spot for the brand, and I suspect I’m not alone. So I’m very excited about this one, and here’s why you should be too.
Oh, and before you start reading, it’s pronounced ‘Type Zero One’.
1. It’s a four‑door GT, not a saloon or an SUV
Jaguar calls Type 01 a “one‑of‑a‑kind” luxury four‑door GT. The proportions are low roofline, short front overhang, long bonnet, extended rear overhang and 23in wheels.
The aim is a car that, like the best Jaguars of the past, never arrives unnoticed.

2. It’s the first car of Jaguar’s new era
This is the first Jaguar production car built around the ‘exuberant modernist creative’ philosophy. Jaguar says it was conceived in the design studio on a blank sheet of paper with no constraints, then refined in the wind tunnel.
Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s Managing Director, who I interviewed two years ago, describes it as the foundation of the brand’s reinvention for the 21st century.
3. It sits on a bespoke body architecture
Jaguar says nothing existing could deliver the silhouette and driving character it wanted, so Type 01 uses the new JEA body architecture, which is electric‑only and unique to Jaguar.
It’s designed, engineered and built in the UK.

4. It’s the most powerful Jaguar road car ever
Peak output is up to 1030PS and 1365Nm of torque, from a tri‑motor setup with Intelligent Torque Vectoring. The 0‑62mph time is 3.2 seconds.
5. The rolling acceleration is the party piece
Jaguar is keen to stress that Type 01 isn’t only about standing starts. It claims 62‑112mph in 4.0 seconds, which it says gives the sense of always having power in reserve.
The Formula E know‑how of the double world championship‑winning Jaguar TCS Racing team helped shape its character.

6. It’s also the most aerodynamic Jaguar yet
Active Vanes, a three‑stage deployable spoiler and airflow optimisation deliver a drag coefficient of 0.23. Jaguar says it achieved this without compromising the purity of the design.
7. It’s built to drive like a Jaguar
Jaguar describes the car as “two dynamic characters in one epic drive”, with deep reserves of power and refined comfort. It claims 50:50 weight distribution, which it says makes the car shrink around the driver. There are also more than 360 patent applications behind it.

8. Range and charging figures
There’s a 118kWh usable battery and an 850‑volt architecture. The anticipated EPA range is up to 400 miles (up to 450 miles on the WLTP cycle), with a sustained highway‑speed range of up to 320 miles.
Using 350kW rapid DC charging, Jaguar says you can add up to 200 miles (321km) in as little as 13 minutes. It also claims customers could complete up to 99.7 per cent of journeys without interruption.
9. The cabin is split into four individual spaces
A central spine runs the length of the interior, flanked by brass‑effect anodised aluminium finishers that emphasise the car’s scale. The result is a separate space for each occupant.
Up front, the Interactive Driver Display is a single‑glass 24‑inch OLED that runs the new Jaguar Infotainment. A smartphone‑style seven‑inch touchscreen sits between the front seats for the most common controls.

10. The audio system is an automotive first
The Jaguar Immersive Sound System uses a full‑width, full‑range Panoramic Soundbar, which Jaguar says is an automotive first, plus Sensory Audio seats.
Outside, buyers can choose gloss or satin paint finishes, and the Fender Ingot carries the famous leaper.
As for the cost? There are no official figures yet, but expect to pay between US$160,000 / £120,000 and US$200,000 / £150,000.
