For the first time ever, Rakuten Kobo has launched its award-winning line of eReader in over 500 Best Buy stores across the United States.
Previously, U.S. customers could purchase Kobo eReaders online through kobo.com, or in person at Staples, and Target. Now, book lovers can visit their local Best Buy to see and try out Kobo’s latest devices, including the waterproof Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Clara BW, as well as the feature-rich Kobo Libra Colour.
Here’s why Kobo is expanding into Best Buy at an interesting time
It’s not just about the money…
According to Michael Tamblyn, CEO of Rakuten Kobo, the move aims to let more American readers experience Kobo eReaders before buying: “Many readers want to be able to pick up a device, see the screen, and feel it in their hands before they commit. With Kobo eReaders now available at Best Buy, more American customers can do just that.” In-store, shoppers can see live demo models of Kobo eReaders, try out reading features, and experience the display quality firsthand. Knowledgeable Best Buy staff are available to answer questions, walk customers through the devices’ features, and help them find the right Kobo eReader for their needs.
Is it worth swapping your Kindle for a Kobo?
Kobo devices are designed as open, distraction-free spaces for reading, with features like Kobo Plus (an all-you-can-read subscription service), a large digital bookstore, and easy library borrowing through the Libby and OverDrive apps. Unlike Kindle, which is more closely tied to Amazon’s ecosystem, Kobo supports a wide range of file formats and offers more flexibility in accessing eBooks from local libraries and third-party stores. Compared to Barnes & Noble’s Nook, Kobo stands out for its waterproof models and frequent software updates. All Kobo devices offer weeks of battery life and enough storage for thousands of books.
