I love my dog. He enhances my life in so many ways but his hair shedding isn’t one of them, and he doesn’t even do it excessively. To keep on top of this tan coloured fur falling on to my floors, carpets and rugs, I send my robot vac round twice a day when everyone is out (really couldn’t live without a vac plus mop model now) and I usually manually steam my floors and vacuum with a great cordless model once a week too. Carpet and rug washing was reserved for when it looked dirty or there had been a (very rare) accident. I considered myself a pet parent who was well on top of dog odours and furry floors until I tested the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet Deep Carpet Cleaner with Built-In StainStriker EX300UK, $380/£350…..

What’s the story with the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro?
The Shark CarpetXpert HairPro with StainStriker is a nice looking and well made upright deep carpet cleaner that’s been specifically designed for pet owners. It has built-in spot and stain remover, via the pipe attachment, which is otherwise tucked neatly away, meaning there’s no need to buy a separate supercharged stain remover.
Shark has some pretty big claims for the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro, including that it will pick three times more pet hair than any other upright carpet cleaner (2024 testing). Shark also says it gives a 8x deeper clean than a regular vacuum, comparing the results to its own Classic Upright Pet Vacuum NV602UKT, which costs £150. Not only should the CarpetXpert HairPro provide unbeatable dirt and stain removal, it should do so without clogging or getting hair tangled around the brush roll – promising!
As well as the main unit, you get a tough stain tool, a wide tough stain tool, crevice tool, pet extractor and pet stain trapping tool – quite the carpet cleaning arsenal! The package also provides you with bottles of both products that need to be used with the CarpetXpert HairPro – Deep Clean Pet and Oxy Multiplier. It seems like a comprehensive page and I liked that you had everything needed to get started straight away.
Using the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro in my own home

One of the nicest things about using the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro for the first time is that it’s simple to set-up. There’s a large tank for clean water and Deep Clean Pet solution (there’s markers for quantities so you can’t get it wrong), a large tank for the dirty water and a third small tank for the Oxy Multiplier formula that goes in undiluted and is only used for handheld stain removal. With these fills done, I was ready to clean in five minutes from the initial unboxing.
The Shark CarpetXpert HairPro doesn’t double as a vacuum, so it’s suggested that you do this first, which I did with my trusty Dyson V8. The design of the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro may look a little intimidating if it’s your first time using a carpet cleaner, but it’s actually as simple as a vacuum to operate. On powering on the CarpetXpert HairPro it automatically goes into Deep Clean mode, which is for large areas like carpet and rugs – you simply push it along slowly and it does all the hard work cleaning your carpets as you go. Pressing the mode button changes the setting to dry only, which extracts more of the water from your carpets and rugs. If you lift the hand cleaning tool, which is permanently attached with the hose, the Shark knows this and you’ll be ready to clean stubborn stains using the Oxy Multiplier formula.

On first use, the colour of the liquid in the dirty water tank made me feel queasy. Then when I went to empty it, and saw the volume of dog hair in the hair cage that sits with the dirty water tank, I felt sick to my stomach. I genuinely couldn’t believe all the dirt and dog hair that had been trapped in my living room carpets but I was glad the CarpetXpert HairPro ousted all of it and the room smelt lovely afterwards, too. Even in the heatwave, where my main concern has been which fan can keep me coolest, I was worried about the carpets not drying quickly enough and leaving that disgusting musty smell behind. Shouldn’t have however as the Dry Only mode on CarpetXpert HairPro is nearly as impressive as its cleaning and it left the room practically dry.
I was so impressed with the clean from my living room that I did my stairs using the hand cleaning tool, which brought the carpet up lovely. Upstairs, I did my landing and three bedrooms. As my dog stays downstairs, I wasn’t expecting fur in the dirty water tank but it picked up a ton of my hair instead – if you’re read any of my hair tools reviews, you’ll know I’ve got a bit of a mane going on. I had a small stain on the carpet under my desk, in my spare bedroom, which I switched to the hand cleaning tool for and it eliminated it in a few seconds. There is nothing I found to dislike about the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro during my testing – I was amazed by how good it was (and how secretly dirty my carpets work) and how easy it was to use.

Should I buy the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro?
If you’re a pet parent and you need a new carpet cleaner or your carpets and rugs cleaned, then I’d definitely recommend it. In fact, if you have a four legged friend and think you’re on top of the fur I’d recommend it, as I think you’ll be surprised by just what this magical machine picks up – I know I was…
Getting your carpets cleaned professional is expensive but after you invest in a decent carpet cleaner, like the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro, you’ve got the power to banish pet hair and an indoor whoopsies instantly – all you’ll need to buy are the Shark formulas which cost around £20 for the set and are readily available. I thought my carpets and rugs were clean before testing the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro and they definitely were not, but now I know they are. Fellow pet parents, what’s not to like?
