A new YouTube subscription is here, allowing you to say goodbye to ads without breaking the bank.
YouTube Premium Lite Gives You Videos Without Ads
With the new pilot program, YouTube Premium Lite is now available for $7.99 per month. News of the plan first leaked in February 2025.
Subscribers will be able to watch most YouTube videos without advertisements. YouTube says ads may appear on music content, YouTube Shorts, and when you search or browse.
The Lite option costs almost 50 percent less than the $13.99 per month Premium plan. But those subscribers can enjoy music and music videos without any advertisements. They can also download videos to watch offline and play videos in the background.
Premium Lite will likely attract more subscribers who are interested in an ad-free experience but not the other features of the more expensive tier.
A Great Option for Fans of YouTube
I’ve always wanted to get rid of the constantly annoying ads on YouTube, but never wanted to pay the Premium price, especially since I already get my streaming music and videos from Spotify and Apple Music.
But the new Premium Lite tier is especially interesting for anyone who enjoys the huge amount of videos available on the service without having to spend time hearing ads and hitting that wonderful skip button.
It’s currently unknown if Premium Lite subscribers will be able to access the experimental features YouTube subscribers can enjoy like improved audio and faster playback speed. Though I suspect most people will be happy to give those up for a significantly lower subscription price.
If you’re new to YouTube subscriptions, there are still a number of reasons to look at the more costly YouTube Premium option.
Even if you’re not interested in subscribing to the more costly tier, you can enjoy one of the Premium’s best features, picture-in-picture playback, using this free Android app.
