WhatsApp is already widely popular thanks to its great features and focus on security. But if you need another reason to use the free messaging app, take a look at the improving integration with ChatGPT.
You Can Now Talk to ChatGPT With Voice Messages and Upload Images
The integration first arrived in December 2024, when OpenAI announced that WhatsApp users could message 1-800-242-8478 (or 1-800-CHATGPT) to use the AI chatbot.
Now, OpenAI has expanded the features available for ChatGPT on WhatsApp.
You can now upload images to ChatGPT to have them analyzed or to add information as part of a chat. It’s now also possible to talk with ChatGPT using voice messages. That can be more useful than typing a message in some scenarios.
Coming soon, you will also be able to link to your ChatGPT free account or paid subscription to unlock more usage with the AI assistant. Currently, there is a limit on ChatGPT messages through WhatsApp. Anyone in the United States can call the same number to have voice conversation with ChatGPT, but you’re limited to 15 minutes of chatting per month.
WhatsApp Is Great for a Quick Conversation With ChatGPT
Even though the ChatGPT integration in WhatsApp isn’t perfect, it does provide a great way to use the chatbot without having to download yet another app to your phone or switch between apps. And it seems that OpenAI wants to continue improving the integration with the widely-used app.
While there are a number of free AI chatbots you can choose from, ChatGPT continues to lead the pack with its speed and convenience. Allowing more users to take advantage of ChatGPT in WhatApp will definitely lead to it becoming more popular in the race for AI dominance.
OpenAI is also adding advanced features to ChatGPT at a rapid pace. In January 2025, ChatGPT added the Operator agent that can perform tasks on the web without needing your assistance. Though the feature is currently limited to its most expensive subscription tier.
