Be prepared to pay more to watch the second season of Squid Game and everything else on Netflix. Find out more about all the cost increases.
Three Netflix Plans Will Cost More
During the streaming giant’s latest earnings report, the company announced that it is raising the cost of all three plans.
The basic, ad-supported tier will jump from $6.99 to $7.99 monthly. The ad-free tier is now $17.99 monthly, up from $15.49. Premium tier subscribers will now pay $2 more per month, going from $22.99 to $24.99.
This is the first cost increase for the ad-supported tier. The ad-free tier cost was last raised in January 2022. Premium members last saw a price increase in October 2023.
Netflix is also adding a new Extra Member with Ads option for $7.99 monthly. That will allow someone on the ad-supported plan to add another person outside their household to the subscription. Previously, adding someone else outside the home cost an additional $7.99 monthly on top of the ad-supported plan.
According to The Verge, Netflix didn’t specify when exactly the price increases will go into effect.
More than 19 million new subscribers were added to Netflix over the last quarter, a new record. There are more than 300 million subscribers around the world.
Streaming Video Continues to Get More Expensive
Netflix is a pioneer in streaming video and is one of the best services available, but there are a number of reasons to avoid subscribing to Netflix.
If you’re willing to put up with the price increases, take a look at some ways to improve your Netflix experience, like enabling smart downloads. To save money, there are some positives to subscribing to the ad-supported tier of Netflix and other services like Disney+ and Max.
While I’m less than thrilled with the Netflix price increase, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise. I’ll likely continue to pay for the ad-free tier thanks to the top-notch content and one of the most overlooked parts of the service, the great games that are well worth playing.
