ChatGPT can now do more than answer questions and create images for you. Open AI is rolling out a new capability where users can schedule a reminder and to-do items.
Rolling Out to Paying Users Now
The new beta feature will be available to anyone with a ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro subscription.
Setting a reminder or to-do is a quick process. You can set a one-time request like “remind me when my passport expires in six months,” or something recurring like “provide a weather report every day at 6:30 a.m.”
After set, you’ll receive a notification on whatever platform you’ve enabled notifications. To use the feature, make sure you’ve selected “4o with tasks” in the ChatGPT model picker. ChatGPT can also suggest tasks based on conversations.
All of the tasks can be managed in the usual chat or through the Tasks section only available on the web. Just to note, there’s just a limit of 10 active tasks that can run at the same time.
There’s no word when, or if, the feature will arrive for free users. In the past, many features for subscribers arrived much later for free users with limited access.
Are AI Agents the Next Step?
OpenAI isn’t planning on stopping with the Tasks feature. Bloomberg reported late last year that a new agent is launching this month. Codenamed “Operator” it will use a computer to take actions for you, like writing code or booking travel.
In a blog post earlier this month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman spelled out his vision for the company, saying that 2025 may see the first AI agents actually joining the workforce and “materially change the output of companies.” This is on the heels of OpenAI becoming a for-profit company.
December saw a slate of new announcements from OpenAI, including the Sora generator that can create a video with just a text prompt.
