Be prepared to shell out more for Sling TV. The streaming TV option has just announced new prices taking effect next month.
Price Increases Start in December
Starting on December 20, all three Sling options—Orange, Blue, and the combined Orange & Blue tier will increase by $5.99 per month. That means you will be paying $45.99 per month for either the Blue or Orange option. The price for Orange & Blue will jump to $60.99 monthly.
To keep the prices lower than other similar options, the Orange and Blue tiers offer a vareit of different channels. Sling Orange focuses more on sports with a wide variety of ESPN options. Sling Blue is more news-oriented with MSNBC and Fox News.
If you want everything Sling has to offer, you can pay a bit more for the combined tier.
All three plans offer 50 hours of DVR storage for no additional charge. There are also a wide variety of other channel bundles that can be added on to each plan.
Owner Dish explained the price increase in an email earlier this week to subscribers:
The price we pay to provide you with the programming you enjoy continues to increase well above the pace of inflation. We actively fight every day on your behalf to keep costs as low as possible.
Sling’s price hikes are the first in almost two years.
While it likely won’t take the sting away from the price increase, Sling also announced that it is adding five new games, including PAC-Man, Trivia Crack, and Dots, to its Arcade offering. You can play games while also watching live TV. The games are available for Sling users on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung, LG, Vizio and Comcast.
Sling TV Is Still a Great Value
Even with the price increases, Sling still offers the best value on the market for anyone looking for a live streaming TV option.
When comparing Sling TV to YouTube TV, you can save some substantial cash by choosing Sling TV. The only major knock on Sling TV is that it lacks some local channels. But it does offer integration with the optional AirTV Anywhere. That’s a separate device that connects an antenna to your home Wi-Fi. It also integrates directly into the Sling TV interface.
