Best snow tubing near New York
1. Hunter Mountain
Hunter, NY
Travel time: 2 hours and 40 minutes by car
When trekking to Hunter Mountain, little adventurers will be delighted to know they’ll be sliding down 1,000 foot tubing lanes. Plus, the carpet lift speeds up the process so kiddos can spend more time tubing than waiting on line. When you’ve decided that you’ve had enough snow—if there’s such a thing—stop by the snack bar to refuel with something sweet.
2. Mountain Creek
Vernon, NJ
Travel time: 1 hour and 40 minutes by car
If you’re looking for a rush of adrenaline, the offerings at the five-acre Mountain Creek will do the trick. Snow tubing is one of the favorite available attractions—in addition to Sno-Go Bikes, skiing and snowboarding—and only requires guests to plop into a tube (one person per tube) and venture down the slopes. Note that riders must be 42″ tall and 5 years old.
3. Windham Mountain
Windham, NY
Travel time: 3 hours by car
Windham Mountain Resort may be known for its stellar skiing, but the kid-friendly Tubing Park is just as enticing. Pick your own adventure with one of the six lanes of snow tubing available, and you’ll rocket down 650 feet of snow-covered slope without too much of a wait. Canvas covered tubes keep things super bouncy during the ride, so hold on tight. Other exciting activities include a zip line, ice skating and kids’ snowmobiling. Plus, there’s a cafe to grab hot chocolate when you need to refuel after your snow adventures.
4. Campgaw Mountain
Mahwah, NJ
Travel time: 1 hour by car
Bundle up for a cold-weather adventure that’ll make you wish for eternal winter. Campgaw Mountain is home to adventurous skiing and snowboarding options—group and private lessons, season passes—but visitors would be remiss to skip an opportunity to flop on their bellies for a snow tubing journey. Those attending must ride on their stomach and only one person is permitted per tube. It’s recommended that visitors book ahead—spots fill up quickly!
5. Mount Peter
Warwick, NY
Travel time: 1 hour by car
Only an hour outside of NYC, Mount Peter will transport you to a winter wonderland complete with skiing, snow boarding and, of course, tubing. Gear up for multiple 600-foot runs that will have the young and young at heart begging for multiple rides. Even better? You can skip the trek back up the hill (which kind of puts a damper on things). For those little tots who want to join the fun but aren’t quite big enough to handle the main attraction, there is a play area for teeny snow bunnies to get in on the action.
6. Camelback Mountain Resort
Tannersville, PA
Travel time: 2 hours by car
Camelback really has it all. Visitors have plenty to choose from, including an indoor waterpark, ski slopes and snow tubing! There are 42 lanes to choose from, and adventure-seekers can choose a single tube race or share the experience with a double tube. Two “Magic Carpet” lifts help you head up the mountain in a hurry.
7. Holiday Mountain Ski & Fun Park
Monticello, NY
Travel time: 2 hours by car
The name of this Monticello attraction says it all. Come winter, the venue transforms into a cold-weather paradise with skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Sessions are available Friday through Sunday, and for the kiddos who can’t resist traveling high-speed down the hill, birthday party packages (which also include arcade games, lunch and more) are available.
