Another weekend is upon us, which means another chance to curl up on the couch and watch Netflix. As always, the streaming service is obliging with lots of new content, whether it’s a Netflix original or a licensed movie series or TV show.
The Sex Lives of College Girls
All three seasons of his HBO comedy are now available to stream
Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott play four different college freshmen who are thrown together at the fictional Essex College in Vermont. They grapple with their newfound freedom, figure out dating, and deal with academic pressure. The dialogue is sharp, the characters are likable, and the show ends on a high point rather than a cliffhanger.
This HBO sitcom hails from Mindy Kaling (The Office) and Justin Noble. It’s always great to find a new comedy you can put on in the background of watch whenever you need a lift. The Sex Lives of College Girls may have been canceled a little prematurely, but it could find a whole new fanbase on Netflix.

The Resident Evil Movie Collection
Just in time for the new film
Netflix added several movie collections to its library this week, including six horror movies from the Resident Evil franchise:
- Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)
- Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
- Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
- Resident Evil: Damnation (2012)
- Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017)
- Resident Evil: Death Island (2023)
The first three of those movies star Milla Jovovich as Alice, a former operative of the Umbrella Corporation who now fights against the company, which has a history of causing zombie outbreaks. The other three movies are animated films that stick closer to the Resident Evil video game series. A brand new Resident Evil movie from Weapons director Zach Cregger comes out on September 16, so this collection drops just in time.
Netflix has also added several Jaws and Alien movies to its library, so you’re in luck if you want to have a creature feature marathon.

Lovesick

Not to be confused with the British Netflix show of the same name, Lovesick is a Mexican period drama about a woman named Emilia Sauri (Renata Vaca), who dreams of becoming a doctor. She faces societal pressure from people who don’t think that’s a suitable job for a woman. On top of that, she has to navigate the dangerous political situation in Mexico in the early 20th century, near the start of the Mexican Revolution. Finally, she has two men pining for her, which is always good for a little drama.
Netflix has a long history of creating great foreign language series, and it looks like Lovesick will fit right into that tradition.

Turning Point: Generation 9/11
9/11 25 years later
The destruction of the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 marked a turning point for the United States and arguably the world. This wide-ranging documentary talks with people who were there at the time as well as young people who grew up in the shadow of the attack, tracing how it changed — and is still changing — America’s role on the world stage.
Turning Point: Generation 9/11 is the biggest new documentary on Netflix this week, but by no means the only one. Teenage Wasteland tells the true story of a group of students who exposed a toxic waste conspiracy with their journalism teacher in 1991. And if you want something a little lighter, Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly is about Rachael Gunn, the unlikely Olympian whose break-dancing routine confused and amused everyone at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The Gentlemen Season 2
Guy Ritchie’s crime drama returns
This is the big-ticket item of the weekend. Theo James returns as Eddie Horniman, a peacekeeping officer who inherits his father’s estate…and his father’s vast cannabis empire, which Eddie knew nothing about. The show is created by Guy Ritche, who has been making stylish British crime dramas going all the way back to 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The Gentlemen is very much in that tradition. The dialog crackles with tension, there’s tons of black humor, and the action scenes are a thrill to watch.
Like the first season, the second season of The Gentlemen has eight episodes in all.

Stream all six seasons now
Meanwhile, if you want a show you can binge for days on end, consider Major Crimes, a police procedural about the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes Division. TNT produced six seasons of this meat-and-potatoes cop drama before it finally ended in 2018. Now, every single episode is available on Netflix for your viewing pleasure.
Netflix also gets all three seasons of Driven this week. This steamy romance series is about an independent woman (Olivia Grace Applegate) and a bad boy race car driver (Casey Deidrick) who have a fiery affair even as they help each other heal from the trauma of their pasts. You have a lot of options for binging this weekend.
